The 27^th MELCOM International Conference is due to take place in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina from 23-25 May 2005. The BA would make an ideal venue for such a momentous event. World-renowned as one of the leading cultural institutions in the middle east, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina with its excellent conference facilities has a proven track record in hosting major international conferences, and academic credentials that would support MELCOM International in achieving its goals.
Over 120 librarians from all over the globe are expected to attend this conference. It would provide an international exchange of ideas on librarianship and book research in a friendly and professional environment, combined with informal activities and scholarly tourism. MELCOM is the acronym of Middle East Librarian Committee. It is the European Association of Middle East Librarians, a non-governmental organization enhancing co-operation among individuals and institutions in Europe, North America and the Middle East devoted to all aspects of librarianship, book collecting, the book trade and publishing.
