27TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE IN ALEXANDRIA

FIRST CIRCULAR AND CALL FOR PAPERS

Melcom International's 27th annual Conference will take place in Alexandria from Monday, May 23 to Wednesday, May 25th 2005. MELCOM’S host and local convener will be:

Call for Papers
We call for papers in the following usual categories: 

· Acquisition policies and practices
· Manuscript studies and rare material collections
· Cataloguing policies and practices 
· Libraries and new technologies 

Please send proposed titles of papers with a short abstract to the MELCOM secretary before the end of January 2005. The Melcom board and the Organising Committee reserve the right to select among papers.

Programme
A preliminary programme and information on more details will be circulated as soon as possible, but only to those who will have stated their interest, please keep this in mind, and remember that your expression of interest should also reach MELCOM secretary Nathalie Rodriguez (nrodrig@idf.ext.jussieu.fr) before the end of January 2005.
Please remember that I will be grateful for any help in keeping the MELCOM mailing list tidy and up to date.

Travel and accommodation
Travel and accommodation regulations are as usual, all participants are asked to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements. Information about accommodation and practical details will be given in the second circular, and posted on the Melcom website probably sooner : please check.

MELCOM International is an open organisation, welcoming members from all fields connected with Middle Eastern librarianship and books.
