Digital Archive
Manuscripts & Rarities

The Digital Archive project comes within the BA's efforts to meet the challenge of the digital age. It aims at the production of exhaustive digital copies of the BA's manuscript collection numbering more than six thousand titles, as well as rare books, maps and momentous documents. The project is indented for the fulfillment of two goals. Firstly, to make the rare codices accessible to the public so as to achieve the optimum benefit from the information they contain. Secondly, to preserve them under appropriate climatic conditions away from direct circulation and other damaging factors to guarantee their longevity. Thus, digital copies are placed on CDs meant as a backup against potential loss. Moreover, digital copies of the collection are reprocessed with different software for purposes of consultation and study in the Manuscript Reading Room. Whereby, researchers can search the manuscript database for a given manuscript then review it on one of the computer sets available in the reading room. The CDs of the Digital Manuscript Archive will be offered also for exchange with other academic centers and international libraries. It is noteworthy that the Digital Archive and the Digital Manuscript Library are different in character, though both are ambitious endeavors implemented by the Manuscript Center.
