A pictorial catalog of the Qur’an copies in both
the Alexandria Municipal Library and Abūl-‘Abbās al-Mursī Mosque. It
opens with an introduction to the role of mosques in the establishment of
Arab Islamic civilization. It reviews comprehensively the collection of
rare manuscripts of the Holy Qur’an with photos of the most exquisite and
significant ones in terms of illumination and decoration. The covering
photo is the opening of the Qur’an copy preserved at Abūl-‘Abbās al-Mursī
Mosque with the classification number 221/79, 48 × 34 cm. It was an
endowment to the Mosque by Lady Ingi, the wife of the late Muhammad Sa‘īd
Pasha.
